A stark example of Japan's unique post-war modernization, Beppu Tower still stands as the city's prime landmark. This 100 m (330 ft) tall former television transmission tower gives visitors a 360-degree view of the area. Built in 1957 and once a technological marvel, the structure shows how architecture of a country can be modern without being westernized. A curious photo exhibition on the 17th floor documents the tower's history, showing images of many Japanese celebrities who visited in the past.     Old fashioned tower and only a few visitors up there.

    Staff is rude and most grass windows was broken . The view is just ok . Hakata Tower is much better , and it is free , but Beppu Tower , they charged me 200 jpy and I got to said this is the worst observatory I had visited
