Take in the view at Daikanbo Lookout, an observation area within the national park. The scenic spot, located on the top of a hill, offers views of five peaks of the mountain range, said to resemble a reclining Buddha. An onsite visitor center introduces the area, the significance of the view, and includes a restaurant serving light refreshments. To reach the observation platform, travel by car and use the onsite parking lot, or drop by as part of a longer walk through the national park.   • great location of lookout - you can see the whole valley. Good explanation about the caldera - the crater of the Aso area.  more »
  • Unique view of the entire Aso caldera. Unfortunately view was not great on the day we went (end of March) due to the seasonal dust blown over from China from the Gobi desert producing a white haze that limited visibility. Will have to go back!
  • Such a wonderful place, the view is nice and the snacks is really good! Worth a visit!
