Unlike most buildings in the area, Asakusa Shrine survived the Tokyo air raids in 1945 and remained one of the most popular Shinto shrines in the city. Built in 1649, the temple features the gongen-zukuri architectural style, in which the worship hall and the main sanctuary form a shape resembling the letter H. The temple, also called the "Shrine of the Three Gods," was designated an Important Cultural Property in 1951 due to its historic and cultural importance. It can get busy but it's a very relaxing place where you conduct yourself with dignity. Tourists and locals frequent the shrine and all are welcome. The market close by accepts card payments and no one tries to rob you or overcharge you because you might be a tourist. Public transport is close by, affordable and safe
