Very disappointed with our trip to the Orto winery. We had read about this winery from a newspaper article and my girlfriend was looking forward to it. From the initial email enquiring about the 'wine tasting' the woman in charge was nothing but rude and blunt. When we got to the winery she plonked a bottle of wine in front of us while she was on the phone and left, almost like we were an inconvenience to her being there. She left us for a couple of hours without saying or offering any other wine or food, or showing us around the winery - not exactly wine tasting. She even had the cheek to try and charge us 20 euros each which she eventually decided to reduce to 15. My girlfriend was understandably upset by the mannerisms of this woman. Real shame - this winery has a lot of potential but not in these hands. I won't give this woman the time of day.
We tried to book a tasting, but they didn’t give us a time and just told us to come, as they were close to the water bus stop. I checked the website, and it said they were open from 14:30 to 18:30. We showed up on the day we had told them we would come at 16:05 and couldn’t find anything open, other than the gates to the property. The sign on the property also said they were open from 14:30 to 18:30. I called a phone number on the sign and we could hear it ringing. When the person picked up, I was told that they close at 16:00 on Friday. It was very inconsiderate, especially as the next water bus didn’t come for about an hour and we couldn’t find anything open on the island.
