Sheikh Lotfollah Mosque, Isfahan

4.8
A true masterpiece of Safavid Iranian architecture designed by a famous poet-architect, Sheikh Lotfollah Mosque boasts some of the most impressive tile designs in the country. Visit the mosque to see its exterior use of Esfahan's signature blue and turquoise tiles in intricate patterns. On the inside, marvel at the complexity of harmonious mosaics, elaborate dome designs with cream-colored and deep blue tiles that change nuances during the day. Built in 1602-1619 as a private mosque for the royal court, the edifice stands in contrast to the lavish public mosque nearby. • The Sheikh Lotfollah Mosque or Royal Mosque is one of the MUST VISIT places in Isfahan. There you would visit the most magnificent mosques in the world in terms of architecture and tiling.  more »
  • This mosque is unusual, it does not have a minaret or a courtyard, these building anomalies are explained in that the mosque was not in public use, but exclusively to the women of the harem of the shah. Inside a complexity of beautiful mosaics that adorn the walls and ceiling. The mihrab, one of the most beautiful, I have seen, has a very high niche. Photos yes, but no flash!

  • Sheikh Lotfollah Mosque is one of the architectural masterpieces of the eleventh century. This mosque is famous for its lack of minarets and courtyards. This mosque is located in the World Square of the Universe. Sheikh Lotfollah Mosque is the world's tallest dome as one of the most beautiful domes in the world. The dome of this mosque comes in three colors: earthy, pink and gray. Many believe that this building does not actually have the role of a mosque like other mosques, and the architect, in an artistic way, created a space that even Followers of other religions and all human beings will notice the divine and mystical light in it.
  • Very nice masonry religious building and superior colorful tile work in it. The ticket for Iranian citizens is very expensive but for foreign tourists is extremely cheap( only some cents!) One of the best places for Photography without Flash of course!
