Gain a better understanding of the capital city's folklore from past generations at Reykjavik Open Air Museum. The Reykjavik Society, formed when concerns arose that the city was losing its local history, created this museum to address these issues and find ways to restore the town's past. This included restoring farm buildings, which is why the museum is now mostly open-air. Visit a professor's house, a typical stable, an exhibit with old trains, a blacksmith's house, and even an old slaughterhouse. You can also check out archaeological findings in one of the museum's newest exhibits, Reykjavík 871±2. Reykjavik Open Air Museum Reviews
Me gustan estos lugares y una señorita muy amable nos dio lindas explicaciones de la casa habitacion y los distintos tipos de construcción Antes fuimos al Museo Nacional que es EXCELENTE. more »I like these places and a very friendly lady gave us nice explanations of the house and the different types of construction We before went to the National Museum which is EXCELLENT.
Excellent museum. Our guide was lovely and very informative and funny. We loved it and would definitely recommend the guided tour. more »
This place is underwhelming when you first walk in but then when you see the older homes in the back it becomes amazing. Definitely money well spent. I suggest starting from the back and working your way in. Some of the animals there are pretty tame. The sheep love to be pet
I only experienced the museum on culture day and it was free for anyone wearing traditional clothing. I ate very nice pancakes and there were many nice events. The outdoor nature of the museum msde it even more fun.
