Laguna Chicabal, Quetzaltenango

#3 of 15 in Nature in Western Highlands
Must see · Water Body · Nature / Park
Hike through the high-altitude volcanic region to Laguna Chicabal. After a relatively short trek through the cloud forest hills, you'll come a lagoon (sacred to the local indigenous cultures), which lies in the crater of the now-extinct Chicabal volcano. Bring study footwear and a camera, and also consider leaving early: clouds tend to form over the lake, giving it an eerie look, but diminishing the sweeping views from the top of the crater. • Magical
  • Very mistic place! its a nice and easy hike from San Martin till the lake where you can see and listen (if you are lucky) to some people pray and doing Mayan rituals. The misticism is enhanced when the clouds enter the crater and condensed into the lake.
