Pascual Abaj (alternatively written Pascual Ab'aj), also known as Turcaj, Turk'aj, Turuk'aj and Turukaj, is a pre-Columbian Maya idol at Chichicastenango that survived the Spanish conquest of Guatemala and which is still venerated by the local community. It is the best-known example of such an image. The image was badly damaged in the 1950s by members of Catholic Action.A visit to Pascual Abaj represents just the start of the adventure when you use our Chichicastenango trip builder site to plot your vacation.

Corrected shrine location - it is uphill on a dirt foot path through forest, 5 minutes walk. You don't have to walk through Mask museum property. There is dirt trail immediately east of mask museum driveway.
I visited Pascual abaj on a Saturday. There are two entrees to the mountain. You can take any of them. The first will also guide you to the mask museum. (Which was closed on Saturday I don’t know it it was doe to the fact that chichi is pretty empty on saturdays or that there was a soccer game going on the tv). After a 10 min (easy) hike you will arrive at the top. The view is very nice. When I was there, there were no ceremony’s going on and I was completely alone. I felt very save.
