Casa Santo Domingo Museums
See a diverse collection of Central American art and artifacts in an atmospheric setting at Casa Santo Domingo Museums--a museum and a five-star hotel built on the grounds of a 16th-century convent destroyed in an earthquake. Walk around the green courtyard inhabited by flamboyant parrots and see the historic ruins of a church and a crypt. Different museums on site cover everything from historical pharmaceuticals to contemporary art, with a significant collection of Central American art from several periods. The hotel's design incorporates the remains and Baroque features of the old convent. You don't have to be a hotel guest to dine in the picturesque restaurant--though do prepare for rather steep prices. Put Casa Santo Domingo Museums on your schedule, and learn what else deserves a visit by using our Antigua planning website.

Very interesting ruins and museums, worth the visit. Nicely laid out and a nice place to walk around, and have a drink. more »

A gorgeous, sprawling hotel that was a former convent and now has a series of exceptional museums, along with a spa and convention center. The location is great - 10 minutes walking to most major sights but away from the main drag so very quiet. The outdoor pool is heated. Rooms are spacious and comfortable. The artwork and atmosphere are exceptional. The food is hit or miss - the only minor detractor.

Loved it! The concept of monastery turn into hotel/restaurant/museum it's really interesting, you can walk around as visitor, enter the pay and free of charge museum, enjoy real fine chocolate, buy candles or ceramic made in their own workshops or buy jewelry made with some vestiges found in the ground. You get to know a part of the story of Antigua Guatemala and the importance the has in the world. The breakfast we took was really good, simple ingredients taken to the next level.
