  • A must-visit museum!!! This is the first museum in importance. The second is a treasure trove of Bavarian kings.

  • For a rainy day, a visit to the Bavarian National Museum is recommended. An audio guide is already included in the entrance fee of up to 7€. Unfortunately, not all the exhibitions were open, but I also got enough to see. If you really want to look at everyone and read/listen, you should plan for 3 hours. Exhibits of all kinds are shown: pictures. Sculptures, altars, ivory carvings, weapons and armor, silver and porcelain. Lots of magnificent pieces. In a large hall, models of medieval towns are exhibited in large display areas, very interesting. Since parts of the exhibition are closed for renovation, the tour is a bit confusing and with the many rooms you can already get lost. Those who are interested in art history are in good hands in this museum and can "browse" for hours. In the UG there is a large museum shop where you can buy art.

  • I liked: A very big collection with lots of interesting objects. The premises are interesting too. Did not like: The museum felt museologically antiquated: 95% of the texts were only in German, written on plaques next to the objects. The visit seemed to proceed chronologically, but there were no contextualizing signs/texts in the rooms. The visitor has to read about every object one by one. I you want to learn generally about the history of Bavaria, you will hardly learn it here. Maybe with audioguide the visit would have been better.
  • This museum is worth to visit if you like the beautiful art from the past. They have many collections of statue, ceramic, drawers, art made from ivory, etc.
