Cuban history comes alive at Plaza de la Catedral, home to one of Havana's oldest and most significant Catholic churches. Laid out on an erstwhile swamp, this epicenter of Havana's World Heritage-listed old town represents a kind of open-air museum of Caribbean Baroque architecture. Like the cathedral, the square dates back to the 1700s, when the area became a naval dockyard. Later, the neighborhood housed some of Havana's finest private mansions. Today, a number of popular restaurants and the city's museum of colonial art lie clustered around the plaza. We stayed nit far from here so we're lucky enough to visit it daily. Lots of buskers and vendors and of course the beautiful cathedral. Little side streets full of great restaurants. Stray cats... more »

Wonderful atmosphere here- live music, lots of shops, cafes and bars, souvenir shops. The culture of Havana is alive and so vibrant here. It's like concentrating Havana in one Plaza! If you are visiting the Old City this is one place you have to stop!

It's worth the walk; yes, the walk. If you really want to enjoy Havana, do not take a taxi here, walk down from the Capitol. You are welcome :)
