Tian Zi Fang, Shanghai

#2 of 105 in Neighborhoods in China
Neighborhood · Other
Part of the French Concession area, Tian Zi Fang has transformed from a traditional residential area into a modern arts and crafts enclave. Supported and swarmed by young designers, trend setters, and expatriates, the labyrinthine district houses numerous boutique shops, workshops, studios, bars, and restaurants. The area blends Shikumen buildings with British- and Spanish-styled castles, traditional Chinese meals with international flavors, and the eastern culture with a western charm. A lot of boutiques and galleries offer a variety of handmade novelty souvenirs for sale, arrive early to purchase them, as such limited editions sell out quickly. • The images don't do it justice. Very lovely little area with lots to see and do. It looks like something out of a movie. Very crowded at times.  more »
  • Its like a shops in small alleys, very unique and beautiful. Sell lots of cute things, but if course the prices are expensive even if we bargain. Beautiful place to take photos  more »
  • It's one of my favorite places in Shanghai. Lots of novelty items, collectibles, art, there's a variety of bars & restaurants neatly tucked in the alleys of this complex. The vibe is amazing. A must visit
  • If you're visiting Shanghai for the first time, don't miss the opportunity to come here and walk around these narrow alleys, you'll find tons of souvenirs, coffee shops, artworks, street food, clothes, private cinema, restaurant, even a Cat Cafe. I'm a resident here and I never get tired of coming back, there's always something new going on. Weekends are particularly harsh to walk through the crowd, try to come during week days, if possible.
