A sacred place for Buddhist pilgrims, Jiuhuashan (Mountain of Nine Lotuses) features nine spectacular peaks resembling a blossoming lotus, a name written down by a famous eighth-century poet. One of the four sacred Buddhist mountains, the area abounds with exquisite temples. Visit Huacheng Temple, the oldest temple on the mountain, or see the impressive Wango pagoda, with three cableways offering scenic views of the area. With old pine trees, green bamboo groves, well-maintained hiking trails, and an overall pleasant climate, the mountain is considered one of the best summer resorts in China. Hiking opportunities along ancient religious paths attract both tourists and pilgrims. Regular buses take you here from Chizhou.   • The name of the mountain trail is Huatai Peak. Take the tram first to get to the beginning of the trail. It’s an amazingly long tram ride - about 20 minutes going over peak after peak. Also expensive....  more »
