Royal Museum of the Armed Forces and Military History, Brussels

4.4
#4 of 89 in Museums in Brussels
Located in Cinquantenaire Park, Royal Museum of the Armed Forces and Military History houses aircraft, weaponry, uniforms, and vehicles from all the nations that participated in World Wars I and II. Tightly packed into two halls in the park's northern complex, the exhibits are dense and visually stimulating. Consider combining your visit to museum with a trip to the park. The hall where the artifacts are housed was meant to be temporary, but expanded to a permanent space with a domed, glass roof that is easy to spot from most areas in the park. • So much stuff, from Napoleon to F16 passing through the hot air balloons and tank. Too much stuff a bit messed up, dust everywhere, he knew some attic ... 5 euro price, beautiful planes and cannons. Don't miss the panoramic uktimo floor with view across Brussels

  • The amount of memorabilia is really impressive, for personal taste I stopped more in the hangar of the air force. chance to get in the cockpit of a boeing 707 and unspecified fighter. If allowed to enter in other planes or tanks would be fabulous.

  • I'm been here in september 2010 together with a friend. It was a very impressive experience and the museum very much resonated with us! It was very special to so many different vehicles. I found it very very cool to be able to see aircraft from the first world war. That I knew only from movies and and it was very special to see that in real life. It was also particularly that there was so much to see and we have had a very nice time! 7 years later I can still well remember me! I found the environment also very nice of the museum and the atmosphere in and around the museum was also very finely. Regards, Lerrie from Nijmegen, Netherlands

  • Nice museum and amazing plane hanger. Unfortunately the staff decided to close up early without telling anyone. This ment we missed out on getting to the top of the independents monument.. would have been a nice view :-( good value for €4
  • Something about this military museum is very profound. I went just feeling interested in some old planes and stuff but ended up having a very introspective and existential experience. It is at once educational and also very chilling to see the collection. Silently horrific, like a tragedy that is paused for you to inspect in detail.
  • Wow – what a museum. That being said, it was a little overwhelming at first glance. Some preparation time deciding on what you want to see and what you might be interested in will help considerably with your visit. The hours are good and the staff friendly and helpful. The tickets were unbelievably cheap but the ticket booth was quite a bottleneck for large groups. I visited on a Wednesday morning and total time in the museum was about 2 hours. I toured all the exhibits but was not prepared for the sheer volume of historical military artifacts of all era’s. Pro’s: Lots of stuff to see, well organized and fairly well laid out in the various halls and rooms. Incredible collections of swords, spears, cannons, and armor. Con’s: outside of display cases, a lot of the equipment is in poor shape and dusty. It takes a lot from the picture when you have an airplane covered in dust. The outside courtyard for tanks and tracked vehicles was almost pathetic. In the US, you would get any number of groups to come in and clean them, keep them up etc. I recommend the view of Brussels from the arch and overall enjoyed the museum. It should be a must see if even for just an hour or two – something for everyone at almost no cost.
  • Wonderful place. There is a panaromic view which closes by 4 which I missed as I didn't know about. English audio guide is available at 3 euro
  • Visited with family (4 yr and 9 yr daughter). My elder daughter enjoyed it. We have found aeroplane section very interesting.
