Atomium, Brussels

3.7
#1 of 500 in Museums in Belgium
A bizarrely shaped building, Atomium resembles a giant atom. Originally built for Expo 58, Brussels' World Fair in 1958, the landmark now attracts visitors for its impressive views of the capital from above. Designed in the shape of an iron crystal magnified 165 billion times, the building is composed of nine huge stainless-steel spheres measuring 18 m (59 ft) in diameter and connected by steel tubes. Visit the five spheres containing exhibit halls, including one permanent exhibit dedicated to Expo 58. The top sphere offers a panoramic view of Brussels. Learn about the building's history, construction, and renovation on a guided tour. See Atomium and all Brussels has to offer by arranging your trip with our Brussels tour itinerary planning tool .

  • We visited Atomium on Sunday ant it was very crowded. The ticket price was 15 euro for adults and 8 euro for students. There was discounts for kids, teen, persons with disability and bus drivers.  more »

  • Incredible building really worth seeing! We only had a day in Brussels and are very glad we went. I think it’s a lot better to go when the weather is nice, because you can get nicer pictures and see further with the views. The expo and museum tour included in the price is well worth the price - the rooms on Magritte were especially good.
  • It's the Marquee tourist destination of Brussels and it's not hard to see why! It's absolutely brilliant. People enthusiastic about science will find this really amazing. The tickets are reasonably priced. The food nearby is super expensive. There are couple of local parks nearby which ain't worth it in my opinion. Go there during evening so that you can enjoy both day time and night time view of the Atomium.
  • Way better than I expected. Pricing was reasonable. Fun imaging how amazing this structure and the surrounding World’s Fair must have been in 1958. The Rene Magritte exhibit inside was an added bonus. Want to do something touristy in Brussels? Put this on your list.
  • The panoramic view at the top is worth it alone but the temporary Magritte exhibition was interesting as well. The plastic design museum was much more interesting than I expected and brought back some memories. There are lovely gardens and there were hardly any people about on a hot day in July. It was very relaxing.
  • A nice view, but otherwise not worth the overpriced admission. The viewing platform area is about 2 minutes of entertainment, longer if you eat at the restaurant (mains in the 20-40 euro range). The other exhibits are for people who are really into certain types of art, climbing stairs, and escalators with faux futuristic lights and sounds. They take your photo with some comic book character and grumpily try to sell it to you at the end. You have to pay to use bathrooms on the ground, are forced to pay for a storage locker rental because they deem your bag too large, and can only pay cash for food. I would opt for another tall building for the panoramic views and just come here to look at the structure from the outside, which is still impressive. And of course, go to Mini Europe!
