Atomium, Brussels

3.7
#1 of 470 in Museums in Belgium
A bizarrely shaped building, Atomium resembles a giant atom. Originally built for Expo 58, Brussels' World Fair in 1958, the landmark now attracts visitors for its impressive views of the capital from above. Designed in the shape of an iron crystal magnified 165 billion times, the building is composed of nine huge stainless-steel spheres measuring 18 m (59 ft) in diameter and connected by steel tubes. Visit the five spheres containing exhibit halls, including one permanent exhibit dedicated to Expo 58. The top sphere offers a panoramic view of Brussels. Learn about the building's history, construction, and renovation on a guided tour. See Atomium and all Brussels has to offer by arranging your trip with our Brussels tour itinerary planning tool .

  • We visited Atomium on Sunday ant it was very crowded. The ticket price was 15 euro for adults and 8 euro for students. There was discounts for kids, teen, persons with disability and bus drivers.  more »

  • Really amazing to see. Enjoyed this more than I thought I would. Queues can be really long though and you can wait a long time for the lift to the viewing platform. Very easy to get to as it is on one of the metro lines although it is outside of the city centre
  • Amazing views. Line isn't bad and not too busy in there. Some art and stuffs to see. Elevator is fast and one escalator is pretty cool. We didn't try the restaurant there nor buy the pic from them. Even though it's a toursit trap, overall experience is still great. It's so impressive that this was built for the 1958 Brussels world's fair
  • Beautiful to see the outside of, but the line to get inside was insane. I would recommend getting tickets online. Though, even then the exhibits inside are not as interesting as the views from inside or the view from outside. It was quite crowded so I would recommend coming on an off day or during an off hour. It is often lit up beautifully at night. They do sell water, coffee, espresso, and canned mixed drinks in the cafe below.
  • Atomium is a great experience. You'll get views of the city of Brussels like no other. Unfortunately that's pretty much all you get besides some history in atomic weapons, and the history of the structure. For the price of we adult (I believe €15 at the time) it's up to you to decide the value. I liked it for the photos alone, but can't imagine rating this as amazing.
  • Fantastic place to have dinner. Amazing views and feels really special like you're in a spaceship. Could improve the tables and chairs to make them more suitable for dinning and a bit more classier. Menu and food are very good though, although pricey.
