Atomium, Brussels

3.8
#1 of 512 in Museums in Belgium
A bizarrely shaped building, Atomium resembles a giant atom. Originally built for Expo 58, Brussels' World Fair in 1958, the landmark now attracts visitors for its impressive views of the capital from above. Designed in the shape of an iron crystal magnified 165 billion times, the building is composed of nine huge stainless-steel spheres measuring 18 m (59 ft) in diameter and connected by steel tubes. Visit the five spheres containing exhibit halls, including one permanent exhibit dedicated to Expo 58. The top sphere offers a panoramic view of Brussels. Learn about the building's history, construction, and renovation on a guided tour. See Atomium and all Brussels has to offer by arranging your trip with our Brussels tour itinerary planning tool.

  • One of the view places I've visited without researching before going. Pleasantly surprised. Loved the art exhibit that was there when we went. The student ticket the combined the design museum and Mini Europe was definitely worth the price. Also the only place I've ever bought the photo they take when you first walk in. Really, a great time.
  • What a spectacular building! When I saw this on some pictures, I hoped that I would see it in real life someday. During my trip to Brussels I had the best chance to make my minor dream come true. Within the building there are multiple levels with special exhibitions decidated to the process of construction and "who, when and why" came up with the idea etc. I think of this building as something truly unique and amazing. The panorama that's given to you at the top is breathtaking as well. I were you, I would definitely consider visiting this place.
