In a palatial building, Kunsthistorisches Museum Wien exhibits the Habsburgs' extensive art collection, which was amassed over centuries. Designed by architect Gottfried Semper, the museum is mirrored by an identical building on the opposite side of the Ringstrasse, which houses the Naturhistorisches Museum. Discover works by artists like Vermeer and Rembrandt, as well as a large collection by Pieter Brueghel the Elder. An audio guide offers an in-depth exploration of close to 600 works in the museum, including commentary on the building itself. In addition to the masterpieces on display, the museum includes a reference library of more than 256,000 manuscripts, maps, and historical prints relating to art and cultural history. As others have also said, this is simply a world class museum and one where, surprisingly, a visitor can often have entire halls to themselves. There are several collections and all are worth a view..... more »

Great collection of old art pieces. Amazing historical value. One of the most important museums in Austria. Anyone interested in art history should definitely come here at least once in their life. Bring enough time if you actually want to look at the pictures. There is a treasure hunt organized by an external company that, while fun, I cannot recommend. The focusing on solving the tasks (especially if you compete against different teams) will prevent you from actually appreciating most of the art pieces. There is a nice cafe inside the museum. Cool atmosphere. Good for: People who enjoy old art pieces and art history. Bad for: People who get bored by museums with historical artifacts.

I would like to give more than 5 Stars. Absolutely magnificent!!! No words can describe what I have experienced ever. Sure that all depends what have you been... We spent the whole day inside can't even finish. Definitely will revisit if we travel to Vienna again.
